With a career that spans nearly two decades, James C. Castle has established himself as a formidable force in the legal field. A graduate of Georgetown University Law School, he has dedicated his professional life to honing his skills as a litigator and has become known for his vigorous representation and commitment to his clients. James’s journey through the legal landscape is marked by a fervent pursuit of justice and an unwavering passion for the law.

Before establishing Castle Legal Group, James spent years in the trenches of complex business litigation, class actions, insurance bad faith cases, ERISA disability claims, and labor and employment cases, navigating both federal and state court systems. His track record speaks volumes, having secured favorable outcomes for a diverse range of clients, from small insurers to Fortune 500 companies. It’s this breadth of experience that James brings to his firm and, more importantly, to his clients.

As a Deputy District Attorney, James first-chaired numerous criminal trials, tackling charges that spanned the spectrum of criminal law and shaped his approach to litigation. This role also involved the critical decision-making process of whether to file misdemeanor and felony charges in over 500 cases, further sharpening his legal acumen.

At Castle Legal Group, James leads with the philosophy that every client deserves focused, individualized care. This approach stems from his extensive background, which includes developing comprehensive litigation strategies, managing cross-functional legal teams, and advocating for clients at all levels of the legal system. James’s pre-admission experience is as notable as his legal career. He served the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary as a law clerk, where he prepared statements and questions for Senate hearings, drafted legislation, and gained invaluable insights into the legislative process. His time as a Judicial Extern in the Chambers of the Honorable Gladys Kessler of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia further solidified his understanding of judicial reasoning and legal writing.

With nearly two decades in high-stakes insurance and employment litigation, Peter brings the uncommon perspective of a former senior in-house lawyer at one of the nation’s largest insurers to the firm’s plaintiff-side practice. He now channels that inside knowledge to stand up for policyholders and employees who have been wronged by insurance companies and employers.

As an in-house lawyer, Peter managed litigation strategy in single-plaintiff cases and class actions across the country, managed and conducted sensitive internal investigations, and successfully resolved federal and state administrative charges. He also provided legal advice on issues regarding reductions in force, ADA accommodations, wage and hour compliance, pay equity, AI use, and discrimination/harassment/retaliation risks. He knows exactly how insurers and corporate defendants evaluate risk and how to leverage that knowledge for individuals.

Earlier in his career, Peter was a senior associate at a leading California insurance law firm, where he defended insurers in complex coverage, bad-faith and class action lawsuits in federal and state courts. The experience taught him exactly where carriers look for weaknesses—and how to turn that knowledge into leverage for the people he now represents.

Peter’s experience also includes first-chair jury and bench-trial experience dating back to his tenure as a Deputy District Attorney. His appellate experience dates back to law school where he served as a law clerk for Associate Justice Werdegar at the California Supreme Court and Associate Justice Earl Johnson at the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District. In private practice, he worked on precedent-setting appeals that resulted in favorable results for clients.

Whether the dispute involves wrongful denial of benefits, bad-faith claims handling, wage-and-hour violations, discrimination, or retaliation, Peter’s blend of insurance-coverage depth and employment-law fluency equips him to attack complex issues from every angle.
